Hardware for Voice Over IP support. Connect your Corporate office phone system to your home office phone.
Voice Over IP is comprised of 3 essential elements. 1. A Secure LAN to LAN connection between two or more sites that data can travel upon. 2. A gateway to convert your voice from an analog signal to a data packet. 3. A plain old telephone.
First, there must be a logical connection from your corporate office LAN (Local Area Network) to your home office LAN. This connection is accomplished by creating a virtual connection via a VPN Tunnel through the internet.
A tunnel is just a fancy term for encrypting information between the 2 sites, so that the information cannot be understood by anyone who may attempt to steal it over the interent. This encryption, or VPN tunnel, is created by your Router. Several of the routers on our Web support this function and 3 of them have the Avaya Labs approval; Adtran, Kentroxx, and Netgear.
Secondly - Now that your VPN tunnel is up and working, let's utilize the tunnel to make Voice Over IP phone calls between the two sites. In order to accomplish this, we need to convert your voice from an analog signal to an IP packet. The Multi-Tech Voice Over IP gateway is required at the Corporate office and your home office to convert your call into IP packets. One MultiTech VoIP Gateway is required at both the Home Office side and the Corporate side. At the Corporate end the VoIP Gateway attachs to the companies existing PBX through and analog extension (i.e. Extension 201). In your home office the VoIP gateway plugs into any home phone, which now becomes an extension number off of your corporate phone system (i.e. Extension 201).
Lastly - Start making and receiving calls just as if you were in your Corporate Office.
